Veliaj's dismissal/ Laws Committee and Municipal Council meet today

The Tirana Municipal Council will meet today at 4:00 PM, where it is expected to propose the dismissal of Erion Veliaj. A decision that will then be made by the Council of Ministers.

Earlier today, at 10:00, the Laws Commission of the Municipality of Tirana will meet. At the meeting of the Laws Commission of the Municipality, the proposal for the dismissal of Erion Veliaj will be included in the agenda of the Council meeting.

The request of the Municipal Council for the dismissal of the mayor will be based on Veliaj's absence from duty for more than three months. This is provided for in Article 62, point c, of the Law on Local Government.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the September 11 Assembly, ordered the municipal council to dismiss Veliaj and proposed Ogerta Manastirliu as the Socialist candidate for the capital's municipality.

Erion Veliaj is in Durrës prison, arrested since February 10, 2025, on 13 charges for several serious criminal offenses.
