The Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Blendi Klosi, commented on the dismissal of Erion Veliaj a day ago at the Municipal Council meeting.

In an interview with Klan News, Klosi said that his dismissal was necessary for the well-being of the Municipality of Tirana.

"Veliaj's dismissal was necessary for the well-being of the Municipality of Tirana.

"There is a request from socialist councilors to activate the article of Veliaj's dismissal to pave the way for elections so that the Municipality of Tirana can elect a leader by vote. It is a decision made to continue the life of the city," said Klosi.

He further said that as soon as there is a decision from the Council of Ministers, the request for early elections in Tirana and the other 5 municipalities will be submitted.

"As soon as we have a decision from the Council of Ministers, we will proceed with the request for the competition of Tirana but also other municipalities."

"Work continues in the municipality. The councils have appointed a vice-chairman as the work leader, but it is different with an elected chairman," Klosi declared.

Regarding the timing of the elections, Klosi stated that according to the Code, they should be held in September-October.

"The code stipulates that elections can be held in September-October, but these are elections outside of normality. It would be good not to go too far in the winter, as it does not allow for a full campaign, but it depends on the legislation and the president's decision," Klosi explained.

Asked if Veliaj should have been at the previous day's meeting at the Municipal Council, Klosi said:

"It was a session that was not entirely normal. Veliaj was isolated from the authorities and the permission to come out or not was given by the justice authorities.

There is no precedent that it is not the case that he was part of the council, it is a report with justice.

The sooner the mayoral elections are held, the better for the capital."/ CNA
