Electoral Reform/ Bylykbashi: Nothing has changed in our behavior
PD Vice President, Oerd Bylykbashi

The Vice President of the DP, Oerd Bylykbashi, spoke this Wednesday in a conference with journalists regarding the Electoral Reform.

Bylykbashi said that the DP's behavior has not changed in relation to the Parliament and the Electoral Reform Commission.

He declared that the parliament has turned into a dysfunctional institution that acts in violation of the law and limits the constitutional rights of the opposition.

The vice-president of the Democratic Party underlined that it has never happened in the history of the Albanian parliament that a commission stays for two years without doing anything.

"The reasons why the PD has made a decision regarding the way this parliament works, we already have a completely dysfunctional parliament, it acts in violation of the law because it limits the constitutional rights of the opposition, none of the reasons have gone away.

One of the reasons is the electoral reform, which for two years has been behaving like a ghost in the corridors of the parliament and nothing has happened, because that commission set up and maintained by Edi Rama, with this composition that is today, as he wants move forward, the majority, with the support of Lulzim Basha, is clearly the author of this two-year failure.

It has never happened in the history of the Albanian parliament, that a committee stays for two years without doing anything.

What we have been asking for, a bipartisan commission with co-chairmanship for the real opposition, has not changed. PD is what all members know, PD is what the court currently knows.

And Edi Rama's decision to appoint the co-chairman of the commission and the format of the opposition in this commission, clearly shows that the goal is to dress with a cloak of bipartisanship and consensuality what he said last December.

He will seek the numerical consensus, so in himself he seeks to kill the 20-year tradition of the Albanian parliament. Real consensual bipartisan commissions that have produced electoral code, which ODIHR assesses as a sound basis.

The problem is often not the problems in the law, but breaking the law like the one by Rama, who said that this election code is Chinese, does not stop us.

Electoral reform has the task of adopting additional rules to prevent Edi Rama and the entire machinery from destroying the elections in Albania.

A very difficult task in the conditions of Edi Rama's aggressive lack of will.

Maintaining and advancing a one-sided electoral reform, selling it as consensual and bipartisan, is the worst service that can be done to the elections and Albanians.

Nothing has changed and our behavior in relation to the parliament and the specific commission remains the same", said Bylykbashi./ CNA
