DP MP Belind Këlliçi has declared that it is a national emergency to remove an hour earlier a government that, mandate after mandate, demonstrates incompetence and complicity in hindering this economic freedom, as a free, independent and prosperous Albanian citizen would not be controllable by the illegal machinery of patronage and neo-dictatorship.

The US Department of State's (DASH) report "Investment Climate 2025" is a realistic scanner against government propaganda and deception!

The latest DASH report reflects a reality that the Democratic Party has consistently denounced, a reality where corrupt government obstacles stifle economic growth and development, hinder foreign direct investment, and slow down the pace of Albania's rapprochement with European countries.

The report specifies the low level of the economy, where GDP reaches only a quarter of the EU average.

Beyond the propaganda of 10 million tourists and "great efforts to close chapters", this is the factual reality of the daily lives of Albanian citizens, who unfortunately remain with the highest poverty in the region and far from European economic security or technological development.

Structural reforms to reduce this gap with developed countries find neither the ability, nor the vision, nor the will to be undertaken in the Albanian government.

A competitive Albanian economy should have a good business climate, an openness to new technologies and industrial opportunities of the time, a diversification of resources and exploitation of natural resources, to enable every young person to have the opportunity to build a future with a dignified income in their own home.

On the contrary, chronic problems with rampant corruption, both at the central level and at the local level and spread in a capillary manner, hinder free initiative and trust in the economy.

The government's vision has consistently proven to be the same: the injection of huge flows of dirty money, the total abandonment of the industrial sector and farmers, bureaucratic and extortionate obstacles to small and medium-sized enterprises, the donation of coastal lands to the prime minister's personal clients or "strategic investors" with rich domestic and international criminal CVs!

The report shows how corruption is a concrete obstacle to the Albanian economy, and not just a topic of opposition public discourse.

Corruption in the public sector, the judicial system and public procurement, unfair and distorted competition, the large informal economy, money laundering, obstacles to property rights, poor contract enforcement, are all direct responsibilities of a 12-year-old vicious and failed government, which recycles faces, but not the destructive approach towards state formation.

The report also specifies that the large presence of illegal income from drug trafficking, smuggling, tax evasion and corruption distorts competition in the market. Investors report that they can be subject to blackmail by public administration, media and criminal groups.

Reports of corruption in government procurement are common, with investors often reporting instances of government corruption that delay or hinder investments in Albania.

Property rights, according to the report, continue to be a challenge in Albania, where it is difficult to secure clear property title and compensation for lands confiscated by the communist system continues to be inefficient and insufficient!

Guaranteeing property rights should be the basis of any government policy that aims for sustainable development and increased foreign direct investment, as well as investor confidence in Albania.

On the contrary, property has been treated as electoral loot, by greedy government-oriented officials, to distort the electoral will of voters and prevent Albanians from enriching themselves in their property independent of the government.

The Democratic Party believes in free enterprise, in economic growth based on business freedom for Albanian citizens and foreign investors, without the corrupt chains and fines of a rotten administration.

But the DP simultaneously reiterates the national urgency of the immediate departure of a government that, mandate after mandate, demonstrates incompetence and complicity in hindering this economic freedom, as a free, independent and prosperous Albanian citizen would not be controllable by the illegal machinery of patronage and neo-dictatorship./ CNA
