Prime Minister Edi Rama gave a speech to the media at the UN headquarters before the start of the Security Council meeting.

Rama mentioned the harmful effects of Russia's war in Ukraine, while giving messages of support for Ukraine.

He also called on Russia to start the wheat deal, noting that hundreds of millions of people are seeking food aid.

"In a few minutes, the Security Council will hold the first high-level open debate on maintaining international peace and security through respect for the goals and principles of the UN Charter in the context of the war in Ukraine.

As we are aware, the harmful effects of the war are not limited to Ukraine and Europe, but continue to send shock waves to every corner of the world and once again threaten food security around the world. This is why we must remain engaged and committed to bringing to the Security Council the truth and the sad reality of this unnecessary and entirely avoidable destruction to spread and in doing so counter the distorted message that seeks to justify the invasion.

Albania and many other countries have consistently done this in this council. We must support the international order based on rules that has proven once again against the prophecy that the powerful is right. We must defend multilateral action and resist all the destructive forces that seek to further fragment the international community at a time when we need to be more united in purpose and action to try to stop war.

This meeting is necessary to share ideas on how to use every opportunity for peace. Helping Ukraine defend itself by stopping Russia sends the fairest message to anyone thinking of engaging in a similar adventure tomorrow, it reassures those who seek peace and cooperation and warns those who dream of conflict and confrontation.

We will use this meeting, calling on Russia to start the wheat agreement for the sake of those hundreds of millions who are looking for food aid and assistance from the United Nations ", declared the head of the government./ CNA
