Opposition protest/ Muçollari: If the system does not do its duty, Veliaj
Member of the Presidency, Grigels Muçollari

The member of the Presidency, Grigels Muçollari, in his speech during the opposition protest, stated that the best answer to corruption in the Municipality of Tirana is the resistance of the citizens.

Muçollari emphasized that the mayor Erion Veliaj together with his friends and directors stole millions of euros from the Albanian taxpayers, from the taxpayers of Tirana.

According to him, Veliaj is not under accusation only by justice, but also in the eyes of Albanian citizens.

If justice does not do its job, Muçollari says that Veliaj will appear before popular justice.

"Dear citizens! Dear free people of this city, of this capital! Dear free people of our Tirana! Our resistance here, your resistance, but also that of many citizens who do not have the opportunity to come, in my opinion, is a wonderful display of this country, of this city.

They are the beats of a heart, of a body that was suffering clinical death.

Our resistance to these doors, already rusted by corruption, to this building that turned theft into an institution, is the best answer we can leave to this society, it is the best answer our children can read tomorrow.

Because we are reacting for this city! For this capital, there was no National Theater. For this capital, there is no National Museum of History. For this capital, there is no National Art Gallery.

For this capital that has a library where the books end up in banana boxes. We should feel honored because we are giving energy.

We are using this moment to restore the moral balance in a society between the government and the citizens.

We are free people. We are showing this. We are inviting citizens across the country. The citizens of Tirana, the citizens of Albania, already have one thing for sure.

Erion Veliaj is under accusation and not from that justice that we are eagerly waiting for, but he is under accusation in the eyes of Albanian citizens.

Today, everyone knows the truth that that leader there stole, together with his friends, millions of euros from the Albanian taxpayers, from the taxpayers of Tirana.

And how does the public know this?

I know thanks to your resistance, thanks to the transparency of the opposition, thanks to the persistence of the opposition, which has been reacting for a year now, has denounced the biggest corruption affair, never heard of before.

And this is the role of the opposition. We are not doing anything special. This is the role of the opposition, the constitutional role in a democratic republic. Now I have a call to society. What can society do?

As a whole, as any opposition factor, as people with a party or without a party, as administration employees or you policemen who are there, employees of our state, of the Republic of Albania, we can all together use this moment to react , to once again restore the moral relationship between the government and the citizens, limits for these rulers, but also for those who will come in the future.

This is a golden moment that we must react to. All citizens must find their own form to protest, their own form to react, as this theft cannot pass so easily. It's terrible it happened like this. It would be death for the whole city.

The city is made of people. If people are killed in all aspects and do not react, we must persuade them to react.

I will now make a call to everyone, not as a political representative, but as a citizen. I personally have had a great fear for some time.

Do you know what fear is? That the day my son and daughter will grow up, and they will ask me; "What did you do, dad, when you saw and caught the thief stealing from you and us?

"I would never want to answer "nothing" and I don't believe that any of the citizens today, apathetic or not, administration employees or not, would want to give this answer.

So, this is the moment to give a solution to this long transition, to restore a starting point, that anyone in power who is caught stealing taxpayers' money, go away, go to justice!

It will go before popular justice if the current justice system, if the justice system does not do its job. React, dear citizens! This is our moment to change Albania, to change Tirana!", said Muçollari./ CNA
