EU integration process/ Ambassador Gonzato: Government should benefit from civil

The European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, was present today at the inaugural meeting of the Joint Consultative Committee with the EU Economic and Social Committee, where he also discussed the case of Albania.

Gonzato said that the process cannot be left to society and the Assembly alone.

Gonzato said that the government can benefit from the expertise and knowledge of civil society, which plays a pro-active role.

Gonzato said that civil society must be included and have an active role in the country's integration process.

"A process that involves the whole of society. It cannot be left to society and the Assembly alone, but civil society organizations must play an important role in this process. These countries will have to include civil society in all the work that will be done before they become part of our family. Moving forward in the EU requires political, citizen and civil society commitment. 

"The government can benefit from the expertise and knowledge of civil society. Civil societies should play a pro-active role. In the context of EU membership, civil society participation in decision-making is important," Gonzato said./CNA
