"We benefit 100 million euros"/ Agron Shehaj: Euro, to be introduced

The chairman of the Mundësia party, Agron Shehaj, repeated on MCN TV his proposal that the official currency in Albania be the euro, and according to him, this would save Albanians around 100 million euros.

"Our proposals may seem strange to an ear that is not accustomed to and has not seen what is happening in the West, which follows populism, the sovereignty of the lek and so on. The adoption of the euro instead of the lek has simple logic. I want to talk about the essence. A pseudo, former deputy minister of the Rama government, instead of dealing with the essence, makes montages, me who flies with money. This is how proposals that may not be liked are attacked. So in a banal way.

We are moving towards Europe, we are afraid of the euro, but 25 European countries have this. Two countries like Kosovo and Montenegro also have it. Business will no longer suffer from the fluctuations of the euro, investors will invest in the same currency. Lower interest rates for borrowers.

This is the effect that a part of society is supported by remittances, they are put in difficulty. Albania buys in euros today, everything is paid in euros.

The Euro and the Lek are very close at the moment. I think this change brings benefits, it is a benefit of the 100 million euro exchange cost, which everyone pays. What do we lose? We come to the pseudo-economist's formulation. We lose monetary sovereignty, even a first-year student knows this.

An instrument is lost for monetary policy. But they forget that that instrument has very little effect, or none at all, on the Albanian economy. The Bank of Albania is like a faucet that opens and closes when it wants to keep the price under control. The faucet does not affect the economy as a whole, but on a third of the half.
