Pope Ilia, during his speech at the mass of the Third Sunday of Great Lent held at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, declared that it is a great honor that His Beatitude, John will be the successor of Archbishop Anastasios.

Pope Ilia emphasized that Archbishop Joan will lead all churches with love and virtue.

"It is a great joy for us, it is a great honor that from the bosom of this people of this Metropolis, John will be an ardent follower of our unforgettable Archbishop Anastasius. The path we have described together is a path rich in successes and achievements, because we have found a destroyed church and with the work we have done together with the Holy Synod it has been strengthened. Today it is a dignified church equal to the holy churches throughout the world.

His Eminence Joan was enthroned as Metropolitan on July 25, 1998. He has been a strong collaborator in the central and local government. It is an honor and pride that, with his commendable work, he has been awarded various honorary titles.
