Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, in a joint conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, evaluated Albania's progress towards EU integration.

Orban expressed reservations about the EU, saying that Albania should have become part of the EU.

He stated that Albania has waited a long time for this and the EU should welcome the countries of the Western Balkans as soon as possible.

"Albania has been waiting a long time for this. I also spoke in Strasbourg. Where better for the EU to welcome the countries of the Western Balkans than that way the blood circulates better. It should be part of the EU even now, but unfortunately we are seeing political obstacles and it is difficult to overcome them. I can tell you that we have succeeded because next week we will have the intergovernmental conference between the EU and Albania. And the first group chapter will be opened and I congratulate Prime Minister Rama. The last time we had such discussions was when we were in the presidency and Croatia became a member country. Hungary has helped the EU by providing financial support to the countries of the Western Balkans. They shouldn't have waited for membership for this.
