"There is no red line"/ Sejamini: The opposition will unite only if

Journalist Neritan Sejamini analyzed today two possibilities that could lead to a major opposition unity, beyond the tradition of coalitions, but based on current political conditions.

Invited to A2CNN, Sejamini said that one of the conditions is the accumulation in numbers that is reflected in mandates based on the electoral system and secondly, the rational way of increasing the numbers of the electorate by new parties entering the race.

Regarding the so-called "red line", Sejamini stated that this is simply a cliché to create political barriers.

"In Albania, for better or worse, there has been a tradition of grand coalitions and this tradition of grand coalitions has been built on the logic of numbers, to adapt to the electoral system, especially the one that was before the recent changes and this kind of experience has it. We unite because they gather numbers. The second is that we have some new parties that rationally want to increase their electorate and rationally think about certain strategies. There are new parties, for example, that want to get votes from the DP and merging with the DP does not interest them much because their hope, in terms of the type of electorate, of the people that they can approach, may be people who may be disappointed with the Democratic Party and rather than vote or go to another party, each of these is trying to gather this electorate that is not of the Democratic Party. So, in a way, there is a necessity of numbers and this is the tradition to unite numbers for an electoral arithmetic, in the conditions we are in, and this is necessary because if the opposition is fragmented as we are today, the chances of winning in elections, whether local or general, are minimal.

The other is that new parties were born to gain strength and some of these parties have emerged from other parties or are people who have been, Mr. Lapaj, Mr. Shehaj and others have been involved in certain other movements and have their own personal identity, their own electoral identity and they try to use the rational logic of numbers in this type of scheme, that is, to collect as many as possible. Therefore, in order to achieve a coalition, this rational self-interest of political factors must be overcome, but also of the large party that loves the small ones only for numbers. And what is positive in the initiative of the group represented by Mr. Hasimja is that they should find unity on some issues that unite them and instead of saying we are uniting and forming a coalition, you are saying "we are doing a project, which aims at 3-4 things, then if we want to conceive after these 3-4 objectives are achieved we can do whatever you want. And this is the only way there can be some kind of unity.

The principle of unity is that these ideas of red lines and these things must be removed. Now it has become like a banal political cliché. Everyone talks about the red line. Sometimes we embrace some cliché in expression which becomes our mental cliché. So, if we talk about red lines, in a way we are creating some mental barriers. If you are going to unite for a certain thing, the first thing you will do is be open that you can unite. Then, in the end you may not unite at all, but the first thing is to say “there are no conditions, let's sit down once, let's get to know each other, let's discuss, let's see where we are, where we are not and then in the end there is no need to say in advance that this is the red line”. Without the need to be arrogant, without the need to be smarter than others, more capable than others, more honest than others. To unite, there are two important elements. You need humility to accept that we are all important to each other. Second, you need to be open-minded because sometimes you can be disappointed with how easily you can find the language. You can be disappointed that something can really be created. If you don't start with humility and an open mind to have these discussions, there is no unity", - said Sejamini. /CNA
