"We do not have the freedom to discuss with the EU"/ Rama: BP

Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his speech before the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, stated that Albania does not have the freedom to discuss with the European Union after the negotiation.

Rama further said that the conditions for countries' membership in the union have changed over time. He also added that today the Western Balkan countries have more conditions for membership.  

"We have had several cases where the process of discussing laws related to membership has been taken as a process where we have the freedom to interfere according to our own minds. We do not have this freedom. We do not have the freedom to discuss after negotiating. The entire complex mechanism of European law is negotiated with the Commission, imposed on the government and comes to Parliament. When it comes to Parliament, it must be approved.

I invite you all to be flexible on this point. When you say we don't want to do this because we want to do it like France, the answer we will get is that you are not like France, you are the ones who asked to be part of the EU and these are the conditions. The entire membership process has brought a list of conditions for what came next. We are the countries of the Western Balkans that have conditions that not even Croatia could imagine", said Rama. /CNA
