The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, shared some explanations today, after the government meeting, regarding the oil situation in the country.

In her speech, Ibrahimaj also explained the reasons why Albania has the highest oil prices compared to countries in the region.

According to the minister, the difference in price is related to the sales tax.

"We have had several communications related to how the price of oil is composed and why in Albania we have a price that is higher than in other countries. I would like to dwell on the composition of the price of oil. What affects the price is a big difference that we have between the price of oil in the country and the region is the circulation tax which, unlike the countries in the region, is paid on oil and not on cars. The countries in the region pay the tax on cars. We have judged that the circulation tax paid on oil better reflects reality, because those cars that circulate more will pay more taxes. In a clear logic, this is the reason for having the tax on fuel and not on cars", - the minister said. /CNA
