USAID/Musk "Closed": Criminal Organization

USAID is about to close.

Elon Musk said today that President Donald Trump agreed that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) should be "shut down," after days of speculation about the agency's future.  

"Regarding the USAID issues, I discussed it with (the president) in detail and he agreed that we should shut it down," Musk said in a chat at X Spaces on Monday.

Musk said he contacted Trump several times and Trump confirmed he wants to close the agency, which distributes billions in humanitarian aid and development funds each year.

On Sunday evening, before the X Spaces talk, when asked for comment on USAID, Trump told reporters: “It’s run by a bunch of radical lunatics and we’re taking them out and then we’ll make a decision” about it.

Musk said USAID is "beyond repair," among other attacks he made against the agency created by Congress as an independent body.

"We don't have 'an apple with a worm in it,'" he said. "USAID is a ball of worms. And when there's nothing to bite off then you have to get rid of it all. USAID is a criminal organization," said Elon Musk, Head of the Department for Government Efficiency, writes A2 CNN.

In the X Spaces chat on Monday, which he hosted with Republican senators Joni Ernst of Iowa and Vivek Ramaswamy, the X owner called USAID "too politically partisan" and said it has supported "radical left-wing causes around the world, including things that are anti-American." / CNA
