"Freedom has a name"/ Rama shares Hashim Thaçi's speech in

Prime Minister Edi Rama has shared on social media a portion of the speech of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi on the last day of his trial in The Hague. Rama accompanied the video of Thaçi's speech with the caption "Freedom has a name."

During his speech at the session, Thaçi congratulated Kosovo on its independence, while stating that the only truth in the entire judicial process against him is that the charges against him are unfounded. He emphasized that he is completely innocent.

Thaçi's speech:

Yesterday, Kosovo marked the 18th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kosovo. Today, from this hall, I would like to convey the warmest congratulations of all the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo on this magnificent celebration.

There is only one truth, that the accusations do not hold up. I am completely innocent, but I have said it and I say it again with complete conviction: I sympathize and express my regret for all the victims who have suffered in Kosovo, regardless of their ethnicity.

It's hard to hear this accusation, especially when during the war I didn't know if I would be alive from hour to hour and from day to day.

I wasn't sure if I would see my family, my wife and newborn son, let alone dream of exercising control in Kosovo, in Kosovo completely occupied for about 90 years, but Kosovo was more important than my personal fate.

I have been and still am criticized a lot in Kosovo for supporting the establishment of this court. Critics say that this court aims to criminalize our fight for freedom and the idea of ??independence. I did not believe this at the time when we voted for it, but I sincerely hope that time will prove that I was right and the critics were wrong.

This prosecution, instead of lifting the dark cloud over Kosovo, seeks to darken its sunshine with a black storm, the so-called 'joint criminal enterprise'. / CNA
