The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, expressed his satisfaction that now, even with the approval of the Party Presidency, he will be on the closed election list, despite the extreme conditions of isolation.

In a message published on his social networks, Meta recalled some of his active moments, such as in 2005 and 2008.

Meta emphasized that he did not create a party to become an MP, but to guarantee political rotation and unblock the country's European integration.

"I thank the Presidency of the Freedom Party, which initially proposed me to be a candidate for MP on the closed lists, but which last night approved my request, that Ilir Meta, even in extreme conditions of isolation, will be a candidate for MP on the open list of the Tirana District.

The Freedom Party (LSI) and Ilir Meta were the first for the open lists.

Ilir Meta, along with several colleagues, went on a hunger strike in 2008 against constitutional changes that introduced closed lists and killed true parliamentarism.

Ilir Meta in 2005, for all those who have lost their memory, even though he had the opportunity to become an MP through the proportional system, made an important political act by placing himself only in the majoritarian system because for me, unblocking the country's European process was more important than simply guaranteeing a mandate as an MP.

I did not create a party to become an MP, but to guarantee political rotation and unblock the country's European integration.

Even today, for all those who have their eyes on my forehead and saw my criminal kidnapping and who know where I am, I say to them that despite being in extreme conditions of isolation, it is my duty to lead the Freedom Party by my example and to fight with all my might to show everyone that this is a battle that first and foremost requires extreme sacrifices to be won and not petty short-term calculations by those who think that politics is narrative or perception.

Ilir Meta, with his example from cell No. 5, shows that he fights for great causes and that he does not betray the causes he believes in.

The mafia is not fought by vegetating or waiting for gifts from heaven.

"I thank everyone for their understanding and support in this historic battle for the victory of the "DP-Alliance for a Greater Albania" coalition, which is our major goal," Meta said. /CNA
