The vice-president of the Democratic Party, Agron Gjekmarkaj, responded to the MEPs of the European Parliament, where he emphasized the security measure "House arrest" against the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

Gjekmarkaj has sought the understanding of the MEPs for the causes that the opposition has raised, where he also mentioned that most of the DP MPs have been expelled for 40 days from the Parliament of Albania.

"Dear MEPs!

We as MPs of the opposition are here as a sign of respect and gratitude for you! We really appreciate your communication and help! Our colleagues are protesting about major issues of democracy in Albania. We are here because we started the integration as DP and we consider it vital for our country!

We did not provoke anyone in this room! We didn't insult and we didn't make a play! We raised concerns that we consider very important! We are excluded from 40-60 days, more precisely we are expelled from the Parliament! A violent regulation recently passed violently with the cards of the majority to punish the opposition! Such does not exist anywhere in Europe, in your countries! Perhaps the first act of relief can be to call for this regulation to be removed!

ladies and gentlemen,

we are europeans, we always have been! No one knows better than us what it means to fight for 6 centuries for our continent! We had it, we lost it, we found it again and we try to have those standards in our country!

We are Europeans like you, but we have had worse luck! In 34 years, Albania has changed thanks to the freedom and work of the Albanians, and here no one can adopt it politically as a reality!

I want to tell my Italian friends that I know the politics of the neighboring country well, I have studied and lived! The dialectic and debate there is not even, even often heated, and we cannot be asked to be silent and complacent!

None of you, no matter how high your respect for independent justice, can imagine that 6 months before the elections, the entire leadership of the opposition parties was arrested or imprisoned! In Albania, the leader of the opposition is a political prisoner!

Think for a moment if you had Mrs. Schlein, the leader of the opposition in Italy, Renzi, Calenden and others in prison and how cold would you be in judgment? Would you get rid of the determination that is interfering in the electoral campaign and the election result?

Therefore, I ask for your understanding on the problems that the opposition raised.
