Freedom Party leader Ilir Meta failed to gather the votes to become a member of parliament.

He ran on an open list for Tirana under the logo of the PD-ASHM coalition, a party that deepened its defeat in the May 11 elections.

During a conversation with journalists, Meta said that he was betrayed by a masked man, who handed over the list of 12,000 names that had been made to vote for the leader of the PL, to the patronage workers because he expected to become secretary general instead of Tedi Blushi, according to the promises of his colleagues.

"I thank all those friends who worked, but who were betrayed by a scoundrel, who, on my order, has been declared non grata and the Secretary General of the Freedom Party knows, who handed over the list of 12 thousand names that Ilir Meta's friends, friends, and well-wishers had made to vote for Ilir Meta, to the patronageists because he expected to become Secretary General instead of Tedi Blushi, according to the promises of his colleagues," Meta said./ CNA
