Damian Gjiknuri takes the paint off the SP/ Why the socialist primaries failed

In a press conference, Damian Gjiknuri, General Secretary of the SP, spoke about the preparation of the local elections of May 14, 2023.

Among other things, Gjiknuri stopped by doing the calculations of the Democratic Party and its leader Sali Berisha, with the argument that the primaries are sold democratic but they are not.

He has removed the parallels with the former primaries of the SP, confirming that they were just like that.

"We had primaries in 2007, but on the contrary we lost several municipalities. There is no independent structure to manage the vote within the party", said Gjiknuri.

According to him, the SP will approve an instruction, whether for a candidate or mayor.

"Local parliaments are very important. Local councils lost their importance. They are very important. We will continue the consultation of the party and we will also go outside the party. For it is important that the candidates are liked by the citizens and not only by that small party belly. SP has chosen this methodology. We had primaries in 2007, but on the contrary we lost several municipalities. There is no independent structure to manage the vote within the party. They are sold as democratic, but they do not produce any qualitative or democratic process. It's like comparing the '92 and '96 elections. The SP will strictly stand by the popularity of the party, the public and the guarantees it gives to the candidate", said Gjiknuri. /CNA.al
