Celibashi: Here's what happens if the Constitutional Court declares the

The Head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, invited to the show 'Log,' explained how the procedure will be followed if the Constitutional Court declares the dismissal of Mayor Erion Veliaj illegal.

"If it decides to suspend, the elections will not take place, if it declares them invalid, they will be rerun."

Focusing on the debate after the President decreed the announcement of partial elections in 6 municipalities, Celibashi said that the CEC does not have the competence to judge his decree and that it abides only by the decisions of the Constitutional Court.

"I am in a position not to judge the President's decision. We have the President's decree that states that elections will be held in 6 municipalities, categorically the CEC has no right to judge this position, otherwise we would be competing with the Constitutional Court. If there is a decision from the Constitutional Court, its decisions are mandatory to be implemented by everyone.

If the elections are declared invalid, the elections are repeated. What I can say is that if there is a decision of the Court of Justice to suspend the elections or declare them invalid, it engages the CEC, any other decision-making does not engage it. If it decides to suspend, the elections will not take place, if it declares them invalid, they will be repeated. Any other decision-making has nothing to do with the CEC", said Celibashi. /CNA
