The candidate of the DP of Alibeaj for the Municipality of Tirana, Roland Bejko, spoke with superlatives about himself at the opening of the electoral campaign on May 14.

Bejko said that he is not afraid of challenges and difficulties, as he is an incorrigible idealist who will not change.

"Dear sisters and brothers, I have accepted this candidacy and this responsibility with the greatest conviction and faith. It is the most correct and fairest decision I have made in my political life, for several reasons:

The first because it has to do with my character. Never in my 33-year life within the Democratic Party have I been tired of challenges and difficulties. Always, in the most difficult moments, whenever my contribution was needed for the Democratic Party, I was not spared at any moment. I have put all my energies and knowledge at the service of her and the Democrats, without getting anything in return. Because I am one of you, ordinary democrats who have only fought for the Democratic Party and have never benefited from it. And of course I wouldn't be fooled this time either. Even more so in this race, where the contribution of all of us is missing. I see politics as a mission and not as a benefit. This is how I am. An incorrigible idealist, and so I always will be. Same as all of you here", he said.

While listing the reasons for his candidacy, Bejko made a series of accusations against the DP chairman Sali Berisha and the PL chairman Ilir Meta.

"Secondly, how could I accept, how could we all accept, that the democrats in Tirana, in the capital of Albania, were represented by a non-grata from the United States and Great Britain, isolated from all Western politics like Sali Berisha. How could we accept that the democrats in Tirana were represented by a socialist like Ilir Meta. Democrats do not deserve such humiliation. We are here today, I am in this race precisely to save the honor and history of the Democratic Party from falling into the hands of an eastern autocrat and into the hands of a political predator like the socialist Ilir Meta, whom Sali Berisha has introduced into treacherous way in the bosom of the democrats, so that he can get their votes and take them to the next bazaar with Edi Rama tomorrow. This is a historical betrayal, a knife in the back that Sali Berisha has inserted into the Democrats and the right. This is the greatest political disloyalty to those honest Democrats, who are all our friends and comrades. But we could never give him this pleasure. We are here precisely to stop this infidelity.
