Prime Minister Edi Rama delivered his speech at the Socialist Party Assembly meeting in Gjirokastra. Rama spoke about the EU membership negotiations, saying that their conclusion is a challenging, trying and very difficult process.

According to the head of government, if the Socialist Party had not received 83 mandates in the last elections, there would be no negotiations with the EU today.

"The road to the EU is the reason for this communication with the entire party base because it is important that, starting from the SP membership, they have full awareness of the delicate moment that the country is going through today on a path where the arrival is closer than ever. The last meters are the most difficult. Closing the negotiations is a challenging, testing and very difficult process.

The membership of the Socialist Party is on the territory of Albania and not at the negotiating table. In fact, the negotiations, the energy and the strength of Albania that is represented at that table, are taken from the daily life of our country.

The axis of this entire process is the Socialist Party because both the legislative power and its performance and the executive power and its performance are related to it. A good part of the process is related to the performance of these two powers. If we did not have those votes in parliament, we would not have negotiations with the EU, but we would have pressure for negotiations with the partisans that we have in the opposition and who would take membership hostage.

When I said we need a stronger mandate, I was looking at what came next and not at my power, or any ambition to take more seats in parliament, but simply at our mission to prevent the EU accession process from being hijacked by anyone and to bring a historic and substantive mission for the SP to the end. Apart from our political family and those who supported us, others are not only against us but are obsessed with doing everything and saying everything to hinder us on this path. We are not a flawless political force, but we must not allow anyone to cover up all the extraordinary work we have done together,” said Rama. /CNA
