The candidate for the municipality of Mirdita of the Democratic Party of Vula, Mark Ruçi, has withdrawn from the race for the May 14 local elections.

The news has been confirmed by Ruçi himself, who states that he withdrew for personal and family reasons.

He has sent a letter to the Central Election Commission, asking him to resign as a candidate for mayor of Mirdita.

"For your information: CEC Tirana

My name is Mark Gjon Ruçi, born on 20.08.1961 in Tarazh Mirditë, a resident of Rubik-Mirditë, I present the request as follows:

1) Being a candidate for Mayor in Mirdita proposed by the Democratic Party of Albania, for personal and family reasons I declare of my own free will that I am withdrawing from the race for the elections of May 14, 2023.

2) Please confirm at the CEC my resignation to be excluded from the list of candidates for Mayor of Mirdita" , the letter says.

We remind you that Ruçi is not the only DP candidate of the seal who has withdrawn from the race. Previously, other candidates for mayors, as well as for municipal councils, have resigned./ CNA.al
