A few days ago, Auron Tare published a video, where Richard Hodges, British archaeologist and member of the management board of Butrint, gives a lecture at the University of Siena in Italy, where he talks about Butrint and the surrounding area. What makes an impression is that Mr. Hodges has fundamental mistakes in the facts. Interpretation is of little importance, but facts are facts.

First, he declares that Albania is "an Artificial Nation created by the Great Powers without the presence of the Albanians themselves in 1913".

Ky fakt eshte krejtesisht i pavertete. Shqiperia nuk ishte dhe ska qene kurre nje shtet artificial i krijuar per ballancat e fuqive te medha. Shqiptaret e kerkuan pavaresine e tyre qe ne vititn 1878 ne Kongresin e Berlinit. Ata ngriten nje qeveri kombetare qe funksionoi thuajse 2 vjet e dale nga Lidhja e Prizrenit, qe perfaqesonte gjithe krahinat e banuara nga Shqiptare dhe qe drejtohej nga Ymer Prizreni. Ajo ngriti struktura te mirefillta shteterore dhe u shtyp me insistimin e Fuqive te medha, madje me floten me te madhe te kohes qe mberriti ne brigjet e Ulqinit per ti trembur mbrojtesit vendas te qytetit.

Shqiptaret e shpallen vete pavaresine e tyre me 1912 dhe per kete thjeshte i njoftuan fuqite e medha. Shqiperia ka pasur diskutime me fqinjet per kufijte, por kurre, askush, as shtetet me agresive ndaj nesh nuk kane deklaruar qe shqiptaret nuk ekzistojne si komb, apo qe jane nje komb artificial. Harta e botes eshte mbushur me shtete artificiale, por Shqiperia nuk eshte cilesuar kurre nje prej tyre. Fuqite e medha kane njohur Pavaresine e shpallur nga Shqiptaret dhe me pas kane ndermjetesuar per kufijte e shtetit te ri qe u sanksionuan me Protokollin e Firences.

E dyta ai deklaron se zona rreth Butrintit “Per nje kohe ka qene Epir”. Epiri eshte nje krahine gjeografike dhe pretendimi per shtrirjen e saj ka qene nje debat i gjate mes Shqiperise dhe Greqise. Por zona nuk ka qene kurre pjese e Epirit Grek. Deri me 1913 ka qene pjese e perandorise Osmane. Me 1913 i kaloi shtetit Shqiptar. Me 1913, nje force radikale progreke e drejtuar nga Kristaq Zografi shpalli Autonomine e Vorio Epirit ku perfshinte jo vetem Butrintin por edhe Gjirokastren. Nuk dua te zgjatem me kete histori se ajo eshte pjese e problemeve te brendshme te shtetit shqiptar. Por kufiri shteteror nuk ndryshoi kurre dhe ajo zone sju bashkua kurre zyrtarisht Epirit.

E treta dhe me e renda, ai deklaron se si pasoje e perfshirjes se Butrinitit dhe zones perreth ne shtetin shqiptar “Shume greke iken drejt Korfuzit dhe zonave ne Jug”.

This is a screaming historical untruth. Never in the history of Albania and Greece has there been ethnic Albanian cleansing against the Greek population. The Albanians have never pushed the Greek population to leave their homes and properties. The opposite has happened in some moments of history, such as in 1913 - 1914 or 1944. The Greek monirotars remained in their properties even after the declaration of independence of Albania and even remain today. Maybe there are cases of families that have moved from one city to another, but mass displacement of the Greek population from the areas that are now part of the territory of the Republic of Albania has never happened.
