From the Democratic Party to the Hall Street Party
Sali Berisha

"Mustafa Matohiti" street, since the family of Mr. Sali Berisha, then prime minister, decided to live there, it got the name "Sala Street". That alley is already famous and the bars and restaurants there are among the most expensive in Tirana.

A bit of history…..

In June 1991, the ALP (which had to be declared illegal as responsible for crimes in the dictatorship) held its 10th Congress. The most fanatical communists remained around her, who neither understood nor wanted to understand that communism had failed and had fallen in Albania as well. A writer, communist but not ignorant, Dritëro Agolli, gave a speech which paved the way for the transformation of APS from a conservative communist organization to a European-style party.

Ramiz Alia, who had succeeded in turning the anti-communist revolution into a power-change negotiation, had withdrawn from the party, saving it from annihilation. But also by leaving it free, where liberals and conservatives "ate each other's heads" in a process of continuity and transformation.

Dritëro Agolli, no matter how much he was hissed by the crowd of ignoramuses in the hall, he succeeded. Their party entered the Palace of Congresses as APS and came out as APS. Later, several internal wars took place in SPSH, famous KPD, catharsis, division, overthrow...

It is today the largest and most organized party in the country (authoritarian, corrupt, etc., this is another topic).

A little more history...

In 2013, after losing the elections, Sali Berisha resigned from the leadership of the DP, making many of his sympathizers cry. PDSH, which was born as an anti-communist party, had to undergo an ideological and organizational reformation-repositioning, adapting to European political models. Her sisters in Eastern Europe had been transformed or even extinguished, as the battle with communism was considered closed. Sali Berisha resigned, but did not withdraw. He delegated substitutes, with the mania to control his creature, and the party was neither reformed nor democratized. She never made an election, never a catharsis or overthrow of leadership. She hypothesized the merit of overthrowing communism, but even 30 years after the "revolution" she was proposing laws for the "Decommunization of the country". There were those who believed that the return of Berisha through "Reestablishment" would be concluded with a real election process, with a dignified withdrawal of a politician and statesman, because they believed that Berisha would free his party from himself at last .

But this did not happen and as a result the Refounding also shrunk!

The end of the journey……

Sali Berisha is now isolated at home. A completely unnecessary decision for the prosecutor's office to continue the investigation of the case it opened against him. Berisha has isolated himself in his apartment at "Rrugica e S?la" and he has also taken over the party, one of the pieces of what he created 33 years ago. Just as the fanatical communists in 1991 shouted "Labor Party" at the 10th congress, Brisha's supporters also greeted him from the street with the cry "Berisha, hero, all Albania loves you".

I do not judge those idealistic people. On the contrary, I admire their courage, determination and will. "Rrugica e Sala" will also be the new headquarters of this party. Speeches will be held there and appeals issued. Live television will be stationed there. There will be public attention, there will be the center of opposition. While the parliament will continue to produce smoke and not opposition.

He will have to stay locked in the house for a long time and it will probably be his daughter, Argita, who will lead his supporters. But this will happen only when Berisha himself decides.

Beyond the political struggle, attacks by the majority or by international actors, Berisha chose his own political fate and not only. Yes, together with him he chose the fate of the opposition. Although the opposition is bigger than Berisha and, bigger than the DP and its membership. His obsession with not "surrendering" to the dictatorship, as he says, but to his ego, reduced the Democratic Party to a street party.

Neither opposition, nor revolution, nor power can be produced from Berisha's window!/ CNA
