Lulzim Basha

When Lulzim Basha appeared on the political scene of the Democratic Party in 2005, like many others, I had the great desire that, finally, things are starting to move for the better. Luli stood out, among many others, not only because he was tall, elegant and reminded of the young Enver Hoxha. His close friendship with Sali Berisha's daughter and son-in-law gave him the main political weight in opposition circles.

It seemed that Berisha, along with the trickery of the old and sinful face of his Party, was also thinking about the Successor.

For this reason Luli was seen from the beginning as a more important catapult than all the other currents combined. The other KOP-ists have already been forgotten...

Luli was Berisha's "trust", the face of the future Democratic Party. I tried to find good things, some insight in the discourse or televised debates, but in the end all that remained in my mind was the proverbial smile. It wasn't a cynical, teasing smile. Neither approving nor understanding. It was a stupid, unstoppable, useless smile… Like a nervous tic. Luli just couldn't stop it. It gave me the depressing impression of some sleazeball and snot without any substance or substance. Since that day, I have tried to change the first impression, but unfortunately I have only reinforced it.

When the affair of the National Road came, I was very impressed by his attitude. I was sure that that man had no desire to commit the corruption he was accused of. Rruga e Kombit was Berisha's investment for his own political interests and Basha was simply collateral damage of that investment.

The opposition accused Basha of organizing the international tender for the Nation's Road (won by Bechtel Enka) without a complete final project. According to the accusation, this had caused a material damage of 230 or more million Euros.

Berisha strongly defended his kanakar. He brought collegial decisions to the Government to justify the additions of funds leaving the responsibility unnamed individual. The process was closed with a procedure by the Supreme Court.

Ambiguity

I understood one thing from that affair: Basha is number 2 even in the exercise of the incumbent's duties as Minister of Transport. Number 1 was his Chief Prime Minister. Basha liked this ambiguous role and was ready to accept it in any position. Of course, even Berisha who dies for such.

The case of January 21 was only a reconfirmation of this finding. The killing of 4 people without trial, in front of the Prime Minister's Office, should have consequences first for the guarantor of public order, Minister Basha. Time proved that similar situations of violence by demonstrators are also faced with alternative strategies such as tear gas and confrontation with the police. Best of all, no one mentioned the failure of the Police. Because they knew the helplessness and ambiguity of Lulu. Everyone knew that the real Minister was Berisha. Luli Basha was in his eternal role: Deputy Minister of the Ministry where he is the titular!

I am not going to dwell on the later manifestations of his impotence, on the proverbial incompetence and spectacular failure as Mayor of Tirana. How come he didn't do a single thing, one thing?! Ah yes, it made the embarrassing linen-shaped square! That shame would be enough to eliminate him from politics or public positions...

In his political life I know only one success, the decriminalization of politics. Thanks to that political initiative, some deputies and local functionaries with criminal records left politics and a certain premise was created for the separation of politics from neighborhood streetwalkers or ordinary criminals. Those sophisticates did not leave such a flagrant mark, they still determine the winners of the elections to this day.

The chair of the Chairman of the Party was very important to him. Especially with the power he got with the 2008 changes. The Party Chairman no longer made lists of candidates. No, now he had the power to make you a deputy, at least 45 deputies that Basha brought to the safe zone could sleep comfortably and wake up as deputies! This increased servility but also pressure. To share the pressure, Basha again had his political mentor. He used that style again:

"I am the deputy chairman of the Party for responsibilities and chairman for rights".

And who wouldn't want such a privilege!

Thus, using the rights, it fell on the head of all the former managers who sold farts to the corridors as if they were pigs. But not the President of all. Although he would very much like to... But with whom would he share the responsibility if it fell to the President of all Presidents? So he kept it…

The retention of Berisha as a candidate in the 2017 elections was an indication of his ambiguity and impotence to be number "one" ever. Any Party Chairman who has a chance to become Chairman had to retire the predecessor. By all means. Even handing over the keys to the party if he refused to leave. So at least he would start walking on his own two feet. But Luli can't walk by himself, he wants circular. He had to have another godfather to make decisions for him. This time the eternal Godfather could not help anymore...

Not leaving Berisha was not Basha's biggest mistake in 2017. No, the biggest mistake was building a big tent in the middle of the Boulevard in February of that year. 4 months before the day of general elections. We voters of the right could not see the end of the political action. How would it end? Do you know anything Lul skreta?

Irresponsibility

Here, for the first time, I understood that Basha not only could not make decisions without a tutor, but even if he did, he was not at all responsible for how the events went. This was fatal to a political force.

His political foresight did not last more than 3-4 days. When the pressure increased he was seen in trouble, like that day when Edi Rama told him that "Politics is chess" and Basha came to the tent and saw Aldo Bumçi with a militant playing chess... It was miserable for an opposition militant to see the boss of at that level...

Perseverance

The spectacular failure of the "New Republic" in 2017 testified to another quality of Basha's character: he was also unscrupulously persistent!

Don't! A persistent irresponsibility was the worst that could happen to an Opposition. With a cynical impudence and with the support of the deputies appointed by him, he immediately started the tour of .... re-election! Without any analysis, no responsibility, no resignation.

Time passes quickly and 2019 has arrived. The local elections were approaching and Luli was terrified of them. The government had given him enough reasons to react: The wiretapping of vote theft was published...

But what Luli had thought this time was more terrible than the umbrella: Luli decided to burn the mandates of the deputy! With a pathetic exclamation he shouted: "It's over"!

There is a good chance that someone else made the decision. Because as we said above, Luli was the Vice President in charge. It led the Party to a dead end, handed power to Rama on the table, discouraged the militants and damaged the Opposition for the next 20 years! Suicide like that cannot have been done by any Party Chairman ever... Rama replaced the MPs who resigned from Basha's lists. With their votes, he changed the Constitution and removed the coalitions! With this action, he mathematically ensured the victory of 2021.

Luli started the avaza again. "We are closer to victory than ever before" - he said. He announced the elections, started the campaign among the dead.

He suddenly received a gift from God: the State Department declared his tutor, Sali Berisha, "non grata"!

Basha could already overthrow the old godfather with the help of the new godfather. He made the elections within the Party by offering support to Berisha. Like a real skunk. With ambiguous attitudes, as always...

It was the moment for the Albanian Opposition to get rid of the Berisha-Basha ambiguity, it was the moment for the first time to offer a strong decision. Before Basha there were three solutions:

Offer to resign from the post of Party Chairman as a sign of solidarity with Berisha, leaving the latter exposed;

To make the decision to split the party from Berisha accompanied by his irrevocable resignation to stop Berisha's alibi "be?premi";

Not to remove Berisha by refusing to recognize DASH's decision.

All three of the above decisions would be in order to preserve the Party from destruction.

But Basha, as always does not disappoint, chooses a fourth: He gets rid of Berisha and keeps himself!

This was a joint decision to set fire to the Party, as it did. The base opposed it and lost the majority within the Party.

But never the persistence of the irresponsible.

Now Lul Basha is returning with the cloak of the Euro-Atlantic, who is saving the Party from Berishism. The roles have changed but the comedy is the same: Berisha was saving the Party from "be?premi" while now "be?premi" is saving the Party from Berisha.... Since you didn't leave, I'm not leaving either...

This proverbial incompetent, this irresponsible incomparable to any other; this persistent and relentless idiot is once again at the head of a party that has an opposition minority.

It is now coming without the shame of losing, nor of accountability. After 20 years of political career, 6 years as Minister (Transport, Foreign, Interior), 4 years as Mayor of the Capital and 10 years as Chairman of the largest opposition party, this liberating giant comes to liberate the country from the Bermuda Triangle that has usurped it. This is our tragicomedy...

Now he is free to take 5%, 7% or 10%. Because he has Berisha's alibi in front of him. As it always has. Now he has the godfather of America. He knows very well that the creation of a small opposition Party is the death of the Opposition. But this does not worry him at all. After all, his eternal alibi is in front of him. He no longer needs to secretly say: "It's Berisha's fault". He can say it openly, scream it and use it as an argument in the re-election campaign after losing...

The drama belongs to the opposition people who are seeing the end. When they thought that Berisha has biology against him and a new day will soon come, here comes the greatest President of Albania's political history. Wearing the clothes of the liberator... Black comedy.
