The farmer, the duck and the tourist
Once upon a time, there was a place of natural beauty ...

In December 1990, a group of students who thought that the time had come for Albania to throw off the communist dictatorship with contempt, took the courage to start a protest that would end in a direct confrontation with the regime's dome. Some of them had low-class origins, but most came from families of bureaucrats of the government of that time. There might even be a student whose parents were party members. But despite their family differences, they had one thing in common: the urgent need for freedom! Individual freedom in the political and economic sense of the word. Freedom to choose. Among them, there were also some miniature artistic dissidents who partially joined the Student City strike. No one else like Rama. But that is another matter.
This movement, delayed in relation to the rest of the former communist bloc, nevertheless managed to turn into a movement that led to the overthrow of the dictatorship and totalitarian monopoly of the Party of Labor. Over 70% of Albanians voted for the Democratic Party in the elections of March 22, 1992, as the main representative of the democratic revolution.
But in a traditionally Albanian irony of fate, 5 years later, 70% of Albanians voted against the "leading party of the democratic revolution" in half-burnt Albania, precisely to restore the political and economic freedom that was largely squandered on May 26 and 28, 1996, and the collapse of pyramid schemes that are as related to free initiative as a passport forger is to an embassy consulate!
And in all this 5-year-long turmoil, a political character who was aligned in the two "democratic revolutions" against the government, Azem Hajdari, stood out mainly. As for his role in the years 1990-1992, there is no need to retell it. But unfortunately for him and Albania, Azem Hajdari was the strongest opponent of the government within the majority even during the years 1992-1997. And this trajectory forced by circumstances, Azem determined by his rebelliousness and vocation for freedom. No character is accidental, much less Azem Hajdari. But the mud that has been thrown at him, finding all kinds of reasons from the most banal to the political ones, was not accidental either. Both major parties attacked him while he was alive, while the most radical former communist part of the SP continues to attack him even after his death in the comments of portals or social networks, whenever the opportunity arises. Like every man, he had his weaknesses, but one thing remains: he remains the man who clashed with everyone for freedom!
And in fact, Preci has said a great truth that Azem Hajdari never accepted, but most likely understood it early on. In 1992, at the extraordinary conference of the DP where they expelled him for only 5 minutes, but they attacked him for another 5 years for only one reason: for freedom! Freedom that today we have trampled on as a society and as an elite. We have failed democratically in a spectacular way by reproducing cycles of autocracy in 34 years. But this time, unlike before, the SP and the DP have clearly united in this counter-revolution. So “Azem, you are not even alive for death”!
