A group of astronomers discovered an extraordinary object on the outskirts of our galaxy, the Milky Way, an L-type subdwarf (a very low-mass, low-luminosity star that emits mostly infrared light and has a surface temperature smaller than most stars) called CWISE J1249+3621, which is traveling at a speed too high to escape the Milky Way's gravitational pull.

This object was identified thanks to the citizen science project Backyard Worlds: Planet 9, which uses infrared data from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), a space telescope launched by NASA to map the infrared sky. red.

CWISE J1249+3621 is a subdwarf with unique characteristics: it has an estimated surface temperature of between 1715 and 2320 Kelvin (equivalent to approximately 1,442–2,047 degrees Celsius) and a relatively unusual chemical composition, quite poor in metals, suggesting that it is an old object.

Its speed, then, is impressive: about 456 kilometers per second (about 1,641,600 km/h), enough to potentially allow it to escape the gravity of our galaxy.

At least two scenarios have been proposed to explain the extreme velocity of CWISE J1249+3621: the first suggests that the object originally came from a binary system.

The other possibility is that it came from a globular cluster (a spherical collection of very ancient stars, bound together by gravity, orbiting the center of a galaxy), where the chance encounter with a pair of black holes would have started 'the object outside the group at high speed./ CNA
