"Grand master of the serenade"!

A title that for music enthusiasts, as soon as they hear it, immediately brings to mind Spain Pipa.

Spain Pipa is 86 years old, but continues to this day to keep the Korça serenade alive with her wonderful voice. It was the 1960s when she started singing at a young age, and then she became the most popular serenatist of the Korça and as the only female of this musical genre. The generation of those years knows Spain, but it seems that today's youth does not. In an interview for City News Albania, Spain tells about her life, how beautiful but also difficult.

"Everybody knows Spain Pipa, Spain Pipa now woke up a bit, because there weren't many such things, everyone looked at their own. In a magazine that I published with Josif Minga, it gave me a little life and they recognized me as Spain Pipa , because I didn't have CDs or tapes. I sang since I was little, it makes me happy when people recognize me, because even at my age they can ask where is Spain? Is it alive? I'm 86 years old and my age keeps me mind, while the youth does not. I am very pleased that they talk to me, respect me even without knowing me."

Like all children of that time, Spain often chose to go to her father's work, and there was the starting point of a long journey with the song. Her special voice attracted the attention of Pavllo Sholla, who would make Spain part of the choir, with a Chinese song. After completing the 8-year-old, in addition to the work that was mandatory at that time, she continued to sing and managed to become part of the Soldier's Estrada, and then the professional variety show was the peak of her career.

"I have been singing since I was little, my father was a shoemaker. And at the atelier at that time there were all crafts, carpenters, tailors. I used to come to my father and one day Pavllo Sholla came to his work. He said he would freeze a choir with all the men singing. There he heard me singing for fun and said come on sing, giving me a Chinese song. I sang it and stuck it out a bit like a Chinese then. It was a very big thing at the time good thing we finished 8 years old, with an incredible discipline. I continued to sing little by little, and they took me to the Craft Choir. As soon as you finished school at that time we had to go to work, and not for money, but for learned the trade, and they took me to tailoring. When I got a little older I was called to the Soldier's Estrada, I went there as a singer.

Në fizarmonikë ishte Agim Krajka, Vilson Gjoçaj që janë sot të njohur. Më pas u krijua estrada profesioniste, më thirrën dhe shkova atje si këngëtare. Në atë kohë ishte teatro dhe estradë, unë isha tek estrada, kam bërë parodi me Aleko Prodanin, isha e aktivizuar pasi merrja pjesë në skeçe. Piro Mani më ka dhënë një rol shumë të bukur në veprën Nata e Dymbëdhjetë, që e bëra me kënaqësi dhe me sukses. Kur isha në estradë pata dhe një fatkeqësi, më ndërroi jetë nëna në moshën 44 vjeçare. Por ishim të detyruar të shkonim në punë, dhe më kujtohet një rast kur erdhën ministrat dhe u bë një darkë në Korçë. Unë me sharpë të zezë këndova, edhe pse nëna kishte 5 ditë që kishte vdekur. Pavarësisht kësaj, ata që më panë që këndova më larguan për shkak të keqardhjes që patën për fatkeqësinë që më kishte ndodhur."

Dy vite më parë, për Spanjën erdhi një trofe mjaft i rëndësishëm. Nga një bashkëpunim i suksesshëm me këngëtarin Devis Xherahu, të dy arritën të fitonin çmimin e parë në një eveniment në Mal të Zi. Me plot emocion, Spanja e tregon historinë e këtij bashkëpunimi.

"Një ditë më ndodh diçka e papritur. Më merr Pandi Laço në telefon. Dhe më thotë: Spanja të lutem shumë, këtë radhë është kënga e serenatës korçare, dua të vish. Nuk pranova sepse isha shumë e sëmurë nga këmbët, dhe vazhdoj të jem. Ai këmbënguli të shkoja, por nuk mundesha. Kështu, ai më tha se do të dërgonte një këngëtar që të flasësh për autorët e këngëve. Një nga problematikat më të mëdha që mjeshtria e serenatës thekson, duke krahasuar dy kohë mjaft të ndryshme nga njëra tjetra, është pikërisht deformimi që u bëhet teksteve të këngëve, por ajo që vlen të thuhet, është ndjenja që duhet t’i japësh këngës gjatë interpretimit.

"I can't make songs anymore, why? Because everything has a peak. When you reach the peak, don't put yourself down anymore. I've also had sorrows, my brother and sister passed away within 1 year. The song has to "I put a feeling on it. I always tell you why you change the words, the song has a root. You have to continue this root and let the song flourish. I can't say, for example, 'You cry for me, and I cry for you', when you don't have a worry. Without a feeling, the song doesn't develop. To sing, everyone sings, but if you don't put your pain, the song is not beautiful. I sing the songs with my heart and soul and I feel them when I sing them."

"Look, there is no serenade today, to be honest. I'm sorry that Korça is called the city of Serenade, because it was called that time, not today anymore. Today all composers write songs and make music as they like, but they don't the serenade song like back then. They can sing 'I went out to the window', but today that doesn't happen, no one goes out to the window. The one who makes the song has to think carefully, because that time was different. The serenade has to stay original. More sorry for this situation today. Back then we also sang quartets with the boys, the time was very different. They didn't let us sing the serenade songs. We did the sofat song only one night and Mihallaq Zallumi sang it. One night they came and saw it, the next day the song was removed. That's why I tell everyone not to distort the songs."
