Murder in Pogradec/ People's Advocate starts verifications for the police
People's Advocate

The People's Advocate has reacted to the murder of 42-year-old Egli Proga in Pogradec, an event for which the police initially reported that he had died after falling down in a drunken state.

The People's Advocate expresses concern about the claims made by the victim's family members and the media about the concealment of the crime.

It also announces that it has launched a full verification of the actions and procedures followed by the police.

"The Institution of the People's Advocate expresses its deep concern regarding the serious event that happened in Pogradec, where a citizen lost his life in suspicious circumstances.

In particular, the Ombudsman expresses concern about the claims raised by the victim's family members and part of the public opinion in Pogradec, regarding the possibility of hiding or manipulating the event by the local police structures.

The Ombudsman, as an independent constitutional institution, not only has the duty to protect human rights but also to guarantee transparency and justice in any case where these rights may have been violated.

Regarding the above, the People's Advocate announces that it has launched a full verification on the actions and procedures followed by the competent bodies in this case.
