Cocaine scandal in Mykonos/Among those arrested are the police chief and his

Greek authorities have arrested eight people, including four Albanian citizens, including four police officers, as part of an investigation into corruption in a suspected drug trafficking network.

The group's civilian collaborators were a 43-year-old wanted man, a 24-year-old Albanian and his 29-year-old sister, the partner of the group's leader, and two other people from Albania.

In the same file, 13 other people are also accused, including a Police Chief who serves in the Pydna-Kolindros Police Department, but during the period of investigation he was serving in the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate.

Authorities said the group used encrypted communication apps and third-party bank accounts to hide their activities and launder the proceeds. Financial records showed that more than 3.8 million euros had been deposited into the group leader's accounts over the past five years, with an additional 1 million euros traced to his partner, also a member of the group.

Among the names investigated are three individuals with serious criminal records, whose names were also included in the large file investigating the murders of four members of the Greek cigarette mafia led by the much-wanted "Entik", who is hiding in Dubai.

During coordinated raids in Athens and Mykonos, police seized 4.3 kilograms of suspected cocaine, around 21,000 euros in cash, 14 mobile phones and other evidence.

Thirteen other individuals, including another police officer, are under investigation for related offenses, such as bribery and breach of official secrecy. The suspects will appear before a public prosecutor. /CNA
