Contraband alcoholic beverages/ 53-year-old man arrested, 3 customs officers

The police have finalized the "Drinks" operation, within which a case of smuggling of alcoholic beverages was cracked.

During the operation, on the "Kapshtica - Blilisht" road axis, officers detained 53-year-old A. Ll., who, during a search of his vehicle, was found to have a quantity of alcoholic beverages suspected of having been imported from Greece without customs clearance.

Three senior officials, suspected of abuse of office, have also been criminally prosecuted in connection with the case.

Korça/The Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Sector is finalizing the police operation "Drinks", to crack down on the smuggling of alcoholic beverages.    

1 citizen was arrested after being caught red-handed on the "Kapshtica - Blilisht" road axis, transporting alcoholic beverages that had been smuggled in from Greece.    

Three employees of the Kapshtica Customs Branch are being prosecuted for the criminal offense of "Abuse of office". 

The alcoholic beverages and the vehicle are seized.

Specialists of the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, in continuation of their work to prevent, identify and crack down on criminal activities in the field of economic and financial crimes, based on information provided by police intelligence, have organized the police operation codenamed "Drinks", to crack down on a case of smuggling of excise goods.

During the operation, on the "Kapshticë - Blilisht" road axis, the Police services stopped the vehicle driven by citizen A. Ll.

During the search of this vehicle, the Police services found a quantity of alcoholic beverages, which are suspected of having been imported into Albania without completing customs clearance procedures.   

Following the actions in this case, citizen A. Ll., 53 years old, resident of Korça, was arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offenses of "Smuggling of other goods" and "Smuggling of goods subject to excise duty".

Also, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office where proceedings were initiated for the criminal offense of "Abuse of Office", against citizens KP, 45 years old, AG, 61 years old, and RM, 40 years old (customs officers), as they are suspected of not having carried out the customs clearance of goods, according to the law.   

The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korça, for further action./ CNA
