9 police officers in Gjirokastër are suspended

The Police Surveillance Agency (Vlora-Gjirokastër Region) has executed the decision of the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Gjirokastër, which decided on October 21, the appointment of security measures "Suspension of the exercise of a duty or public service" for 9 police officers near DVKM Gjirokastër.

They are suspected of committing the criminal offenses of "Abuse of duty" and "Assistance for illegal border crossing", specifically:

- BT Manager, Operation Coordinator with FRONTEX;

- FM Chief Commissioner, Head of the Migration Sector at DVKM Gjirokastër;

- Commissioner RR, Head of the Investigation Sector at DVKM Gjirokastër;

- N/EC Commissioner, Specialist in the Migration Sector at DVKM Gjirokastër;

- N/Commissioner BK, Specialist of the Investigation Sector at DVKM Gjirokastër;

- Inspector RB, Service Body in DVKM Gjirokastër;

- DS Inspector, Service Body in the Migration Sector in DVKM Gjirokastër;

- EK Inspector, Service Body at DVKM Gjirokastër;

- Inspector D.Ç., Service Body at DVKM Gjirokastër.

The Court's decision is the result of a several-month investigation followed by special methods, under the direction of the Gjirokastër Prosecutor's Office, after information that some police officers in cooperation were transporting migrants caught from third countries from the Gjirokastër District to the territory of the Delvinë Municipality, giving them then released in violation of the legal acts in force.

The investigations have shown that in some cases, after leaving the migrants in the Delvina area, they were transported against profit from other people, or they traveled inside the Albanian territory. Investigations into the case continue under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office to document the illegal activity of the employees or their associates.
