On the morning of Sunday, April 2, the polling stations for the second round of the presidential elections in Montenegro opened. Nearly 550,000 Montenegrins have the right to vote until the polls close at 8:00 p.m.
According to the latest data from the Monitoring Center, 58.7 percent of the citizens registered in the electoral roll have voted by 17:00.
After winning the most votes in the first election round on March 19, the candidates for the position of president for a five-year term are Milo Djukanovic and Jakov Millatovic.
542,154 citizens have the right to vote for one of them. Podgorica has the most voters, a total of 143,609, while the city in the north of the country, Shavnik, has the fewest, where only 1,777 voters are registered.
The winner in the second electoral round of the presidential elections will be the candidate who will win the largest number of votes from the voters. The term of office of the president lasts five years.
These are the fourth presidential elections since the renewal of Montenegro's independence and the seventh since the introduction of the multi-party system.
The regularity of the election process will be monitored by the observation missions of the ODIHR, the European deputies and the Council of Europe, as well as by the non-governmental organizations Monitoring Center and Center for Democratic Transition. /REL
