British aristocrat and boyfriend sentenced to 14 years in prison for murdering their newborn daughter

A British aristocrat and her lover were sentenced to 14 years in prison on Monday for the murder of their newborn daughter while on the run from authorities.

Constance Marten, 38, and her boyfriend Mark Gordon, 51, were sentenced at the Old Bailey after being found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter by London's Central Criminal Court in July.

They had previously been convicted of perverting the course of justice, concealing the birth of a child, and cruelty to a child.

Police launched a nationwide search after officers found a placenta on January 5, 2023 in a burnt-out car belonging to Marten and Gordon near Bolton in northwest England.

The couple travelled across England and went off the road network, spending hundreds of euros on taxis to transport them and avoiding the use of credit cards or anything that could identify their location./ CNA
