"We'll see what happens"/ Trump talks about the possibility of

US President Donald Trump refused to rule out the possibility of removing Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, as relations between the US and Venezuela deteriorate and the White House continues its war on drug cartels in the region.

"We'll see what happens. Whether it's an option or not," Trump said.

Trump has previously downplayed the possibility of regime change in Venezuela, but has long been clear in his disdain for Maduro.

Washington and Caracas have no formal diplomatic relations and there is little sign of a working relationship between Maduro and Trump. US Attorney General Pam Bondi said last month that US authorities were doubling the reward for information leading to Maduro's arrest to $50 million.

Trump has repeatedly criticized last year's elections that restored Maduro to power. The United States, along with many European and Latin American countries, does not recognize Maduro as the legitimate winner of the country's July 2024 elections.

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado told the British newspaper The Times this month that Trump's contempt for Maduro was the greatest opportunity they've ever had./CNA
