Today marks 16 years since the declaration of Kosovo's Independence. The Declaration of Independence of Kosovo was made on February 17, 2008 in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo in Pristina.

For this historic day in the whole of Albania, there was also a reaction from the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, on social networks she expressed: "We love Kosovo, free, independent, sovereign and with allies. Congratulations on the 16th birthday of to". 

Declaration of independence of Kosovo

The declaration of Independence of Kosovo on February 17, 2008, was the crowning of a long and difficult journey for the citizens of Kosovo. For years, the citizens of Kosovo suffered the consequences of ethnic cleansing by the Serbian regime of Slobodan Milosevic, which resulted in a Liberation War (1997-1999). After the end of the Kosovo Liberation War, international peacekeeping troops were deployed in Kosovo.

Since June 13, 1999, when the Serbian forces were forced to leave Kosovo, this country was administered by the United Nations Organization Mission - UNMIK and the Self-Governing Institutions of Kosovo: the Assembly, the President and the government.

Even though Serbia had no control over Kosovo, in the resolution 12 44 of the Security Council, several times it was mentioned that Kosovo is a protectorate of the UN, but legally part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

In November 2005, the process for the final status of Kosovo officially began. After comprehensive consultations, on February 2, 2007, the international special envoy for the status of Kosovo, Martti Ahtisaari, submitted his proposal to Pristina and Belgrade, for the conditional independence of Kosovo, a step that led to the creation of an independent state. After several rounds of talks were held, Kosovo was declared independent on February 17, 2008./ CNA
