Trump announces new step in the field of defense/ What is the US Space Forces

US President Donald Trump announced today through a statement from the Oval Office a new step regarding the Department of Defense.

The White House and US media reported that Trump ordered the relocation of the US Space Command from Colorado to Alabama.

But what is the US Space Forces Command?

The U.S. Space Command is responsible for military operations beyond the Earth's atmosphere, or about 62 miles above and beyond the internationally recognized boundary of space known as the Kármán Line. This includes protecting U.S. satellites from potential threats.

More specifically, Space Command performs operations such as enabling satellite-based navigation and troop communications, and providing warnings of missile launches.

Just as the Marine Corps falls under the Department of the Navy instead of having its own department, the Space Force falls under the Department of the Air Force, having originally been called Air Force Space Command, according to the Department of Defense.

Space Command was originally created in 1985 to provide joint command and control for all military forces in outer space before merging with US Strategic Command in 2002. /CNA
