Trump to move Space Command headquarters from Colorado to Alabama

The Trump administration plans to announce that it will move the headquarters of the U.S. Space Command from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Huntsville, Alabama, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the discussions.

The move appears to reward a state that overwhelmingly supported President Donald Trump's three Republican presidential nominations over a state that opposed them, although the administration has not given a reason for the move.

The decision would overturn a move made under former President Joe Biden's administration, which had selected Colorado Springs as the permanent headquarters for the Army's newest combatant command in 2023.

Space Command currently operates from Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs on a temporary basis.

About 1,700 people work at Space Command, according to Congressional records.

The president previously blocked a move to locate the FBI headquarters in Maryland, calling it a "liberal state" and suggested tying disaster relief in California to the state's political decisions./ CNA, translated by Reuters
