Poll: Most of the world against Russian leadership

According to a survey conducted by the "Gallup" organization, 57 percent of people around the world do not support Moscow. A new poll shows that the war in Ukraine has damaged not only Russia's efforts on the front line, but also the country's reputation around the world. Gallup's findings show that global support for Moscow's leadership is at its lowest point since the group began collecting the data.

The research of the "Gallup" organization, published in the last few days, shows that the attack against Ukraine has damaged Russia's image in the world.

The organization asked respondents in 137 different countries around the world to share their views on the Russian leadership.

"The poll showed a drop in support to the lowest level we've seen since we started collecting this data. At the global level, support for Russia was at 21 percent, a lower level compared to 2014, when Crimea was annexed. But the main finding is an unprecedented increase of 57 percent of people in the world who do not support it", says Julie Ray from the organization "Gallup".

As expected, the highest levels of disagreement with Russia were identified in countries that support Ukraine.

In the United States, 93 percent of respondents said they do not support Moscow's actions; in Canada 91 percent; in Poland 95 percent while in Ukraine 96 percent do not support her actions.

In 2021, 31 percent of respondents in Latin America were against the Kremlin's actions.

In 2022, that number reached 61 percent, even though Costa Rica was the only country in the region to join global sanctions against Moscow.

"In Latin America, despite the general neutral position of the leaders of these countries, we see that the population is angry with Russia. This means that the positions of the leaders in the region and the Russian propaganda has not worked with the population there", says David Kramer from the George W. Bush Institute .

The survey also highlights a high level of concern from many countries in Eastern Europe, including those former members of the Soviet Union.

"Kazakhstan is an interesting case, because we see that support for the Russian leadership has fallen from 55 percent in 2021 to 29 percent in 2022. This is a big drop and part of it is a reflection of President Tokayev's opposition to Russia's actions; he did not support the attack. In general, countries neighboring Russia are more concerned about the plans and intentions of Russian President Putin," says Mr. Kramer.

Respondents were also asked about other major powers. Global support for American leadership is 41 percent, German 46 percent, and Chinese 28 percent./VOA
