At least five people have been killed in a new wave of Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, including the capital, Kiev, regional and military officials said.

In Uman, a city in the central Cherkasy region, Russian rocket attacks killed at least three people and wounded eight others, said Ihor Taburets, head of the regional military administration.

The rockets hit a residential building and a warehouse, Taburets said.

In Dnipro, Ukraine's largest city on the banks of the Dnieper River, a woman and a small girl were killed by Russian strikes, despite Ukrainian air defenses managing to shoot down seven missiles, said Sehir Lysak, head of the military administration for the region. Dnipropetrovsk.

"A private house was destroyed in Dnipro. A two-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman were killed. Three other people were injured," said Lysak.

The attacks also caused extensive damage to the building of a private company, he said.

Ukrainian air defense managed to shoot down most of the missiles that targeted Kiev, said the head of the military administration for the capital region, Serhiy Popko.

"According to the first data, 11 missiles were destroyed in the airspace of Kiev. Two drones have also crashed," added Popko.

A power line was damaged and civil infrastructure was also damaged.

Explosions were also reported in Kremenchuk and Potava in central Ukraine, and Mykolaiv, in the south of the country.

The command of the Ukrainian Air Force then reported that the Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities were carried out by Tu-195 strategic fighter jets, which were launched from the Caspian Sea region.

The command said that Ukrainian air defenses destroyed 21 of the 23 missiles launched and two drones in the central, eastern and southern regions of Ukraine.

Since the invasion began in February last year, Russia has denied targeting civilians, despite evidence to the contrary.

Meanwhile, heavy fighting is reported to be continuing on the Bahmut-Avdijivka-Marjinka front line in the east, the Ukrainian military said on April 28.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces have launched more than 65 attacks, but all have been repulsed by Ukrainian defenders, the military said.

Bahmut and Marjinka continue to be the epicenter of fierce battles in the eastern region of Donetsk, the Ukrainian army reported./ Rel
