He violated the laws of war/Ukraine sentences the Russian soldier to 12 years in prison

A court in Ukraine has sentenced a Russian soldier to 12 years in prison on charges of violating the laws of war, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine announced on March 30.

The soldier, whose identity has not been released, was found guilty of threatening and victimizing Ukrainian civilians near Kiev as they were leaving the area in March 2022, days after Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Ukraine sentenced Alexei Loboda, a Russian air force officer, to the same sentence.

He was convicted of bombing civilian targets in the eastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv in March 2022.

Ukraine and human rights groups have accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian targets, attacks that could amount to war crimes.

But, despite the evidence that Moscow's forces hit civilian targets, Russia denies these accusations./ REL
