The chaotic situation in the territory makes it extremely difficult to obtain accurate information on the number of casualties in the Gaza Strip.

This has also been confirmed by Palestinian officials, who have emphasized that they have "considerable difficulties" in obtaining updated information due to the interruption of communications in the Gaza Strip.

The Ministry of Health is Gaza's official source for the figures, which it updates regularly, the BBC reports.

The latest list officially released on Monday evening shows that 11,240 people have been killed, including 4,630 children.

The authorities in Israel, as well as American President Joe Biden, have doubts about the figures. But international organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) of the UN, have said that they have no reason not to believe him.

Health ministry officials say the death toll is recorded by medical professionals before being passed on to them, and the figures only include people registered to have died in hospital.
