Serbian authorities have banned the EuroPride march days before the pan-European rally was scheduled to take place in Belgrade. This announcement has provoked criticism from the organizers of this event dedicated to the LGBT community.
The "Pride of Belgrade" organization tweeted on September 13 that the Serbian police have stopped this year's EuroPride march and the organizers have been served with an official notice.
However, this organization vowed to use "all legal means to overturn this decision" in order to organize this year's Pride Parade.
After the announcement of the ban, during a conference in Belgrade, attended by the Serbian Prime Minister, Ana Bërnabiq - who is a lesbian - several protesters asked her to hold the march.
"It's your basic human right", replied Bërnabiq, when the protesters chanted "Let us march on Saturday".
EuroPride promotes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride at the pan-European level, and since 1992 it has been organized by a different European city every year./ REL
