"Modern slavery"/ The UN presents alarming figures: 22 million girls

Global estimates in 2021 indicate that there are 50 million people experiencing modern slavery, including 28 million people who do forced labor and 22 million women/girls who are forced into forced marriage.


This means that there are 6.4 victims of modern slavery for every 1,000 people in the world. 1 in 4 victims of modern slavery are children.

Of the 28 million people trapped in forced labor, 17.3 million people are exploited in the private sector such as domestic work, construction or agriculture; 6.3 million people in forced commercial sexual exploitation and 3.9 million people in forced labor imposed by state authorities.

Women and girls make up more than three quarters of those in forced commercial sexual exploitation and over a third of those in forced labor in other sectors of the economy./ CNA.al Source: ILO.org
