Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had reached an agreement with US President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine during their meeting in Alaska last month.
Putin did not provide details on whether he would accept peace talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, brokered by Trump.
Speaking during a summit in China, Putin defended his decision to invade Ukraine and once again blamed the West for the war.
Putin spoke at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, where he met with China's leader, Xi Jinping, and India's leader, Narendra Modi, and thanked the leaders for their support.
In his speech, Putin said he hopes the agreements reached at his meeting with Trump in Alaska are paving the way for peace in Ukraine.
The Kremlin leader reiterated his position that this crisis was not caused by Russia's attack on Ukraine, but was the result of a coup in Ukraine, which was supported and provoked by the West.
He also attributed the war to the West's continued efforts to draw Ukraine into NATO./ CNA
