The Presidency of the Assembly will meet to discuss the functioning of the

The Presidency of the Assembly of Kosovo will meet today to discuss further steps for the functioning of the legislative institution, although it is not yet known who will participate.

The meeting was called on Saturday by Chairman Dimal Basha, who declared the constitutive session concluded, although no deputy chairman from the Serbian community had been elected.

In three continuations of the session, the candidates from this community failed to secure the necessary 61 votes.

According to the Assembly's rules of procedure, the constitutive session ends only with the election of the speaker and five vice-speakers.

Article 67 of the Constitution states that the Assembly must have a president and five vice presidents.

Four vice-presidents, three from the Albanian community and one from the non-Serb minority, were elected on August 26, along with the president.

Meanwhile, all nine candidates from the Serbian List and the candidate from the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival failed to receive enough votes.

Basha stated that all options for electing the Serbian vice president have been exhausted, so the constitutive session is considered closed.

His position was also supported by his fellow party members in the Vetëvendosje Movement, who demanded that the country now move to the phase of forming a new Government. The former opposition parties opposed this decision, arguing that the Assembly has not yet been constituted, as the Presidency has not been elected in its full constitutional composition.

Since April 15, dozens of attempts have been made to constitute the Assembly, but without success, due to political disagreements.

The case has also ended up in the Constitutional Court, which has issued two judgments with deadlines and instructions on how to conduct the process.

The first deadline was not respected, while the second expires on September 18.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, who has a legal obligation to mandate the winning party or coalition to form the Government after the constitution of the Assembly, called on political forces to find a solution in accordance with the Constitution as soon as possible.

She did not comment on Basha's decision to declare the constitutive session closed./ REL
