US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington's decision to move troops to Europe was not intended to punish its European allies for their lack of support for Washington's war on Iran.
"The United States continues to have global commitments that it must meet in terms of deploying our forces, and that requires us to continually re-examine where we deploy troops. This is not a punitive thing, it's just something that's happening all the time," Rubio told reporters ahead of a NATO meeting in Sweden.
However, the top US diplomat added that US President Donald Trump's "disappointment" with the country's allies over their lack of involvement in the Iran war would need to be addressed.
"This will have to be addressed, this will not be resolved or dealt with today," Rubio said before his meeting with his NATO counterparts. /CNA
