Ebola virus outbreak in Congo/ 160 deaths, 671 infected

The number of infections from the deadly Ebola virus continues to rise rapidly in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

So far, 671 suspected cases and 160 deaths have been recorded, confirmed by the local Ministry of Health.

The World Health Organization said all recorded cases, deaths and infections were attributable to Ebola. The agency added that the number of cases is likely to be much higher soon, as not all cases are being reported.

According to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the current outbreak began in the northeastern province of Ituri, which borders Uganda and South Sudan, about two months ago. It is the 17th recorded Ebola outbreak in the large African country since 1976. /CNA
