Rubio: US-Ukraine talks productive, more work needed to reach an agreement

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that the four-hour meeting between the US and Ukraine held this Sunday was productive.

Rubio stated that he believed Sunday's discussions built on that, but acknowledged that there is still work to be done.

American and Ukrainian officials gathered in a meeting room, where they discussed the US-drafted peace agreement with Russia and sought to revise some aspects of it.

The plan initially placed limits on the size of Ukraine's military, blocked the country's membership in NATO and required Ukraine to hold elections within 100 days.

According to local media, the diplomats discussed the timing of the elections and the possibility of a territorial swap. However, no further details were provided.

The head of Ukraine's security council, Rustem Umerov, expressed his country's appreciation for the efforts made by the United States.

Umerov has previously said he has been in constant contact with President Zelensky and that the negotiators intend to work to provide long-term security guarantees for Ukraine. /CNA
